The Spirit of Water Kickstarter Campaign
Over the last few months I have been putting together my third book ‘The Spirit of Water’, a project exploring the landscape of Scotland through its rivers and waterfalls.
The book measures 148 x 210mm (A5), with 52 pages printed on 130gsm silk paper, perfect bound with a gloss laminated cover. It features 47 full colour photographs, introduction and a list of locations visited.
The book design is finalised, I have a proof copy from the printers and it is ready to go to print. All funds from the Kickstarter campaign will be put towards paying for a limited first edition print run of 150 copies and distribution costs.
Any additional funds raised will be put towards future project work - I would very much like to take part in another residency programme in 2025.
Supporting the campaign will give you the chance to get a copy of the book at an early bird price, as well as the chance to add on exclusive prints from the project, including a framed, signed Limited Edition of ‘The Spirit of Water’, and two sets of limited edition postcard prints. All prints will be produced by myself on Hahnemühle Photo Rag paper.
Everyone who supports through any reward tier will have their name included on a dedicated page in the book as a thank you for your support in making it happen.
Putting together the book and building up the campaign project page has been a great experience. This started off as a very personal project exploring and recording places I visited after moving to Scotland and evolved into searching out rivers and waterfalls and planning routes around their locations over four years, resulting in a body of work containing hundreds of images - the biggest challenge has been editing them down to just 47. It’s also enabled me to start playing with recording audio and video on location (this is still a work in progress!) and learning the basics of how to edit these has been a lot of fun and something I hope to build on in future projects. I’ve always enjoyed using publishing software and putting together books, and believe that it is a great way to share photography with a wider audience in a more tangible way than through social media.
The last few years have been challenging on a personal and creative level for many reasons, and I am hoping that my first crowdfunding campaign will be a successful learning curve and a step towards a more creative and productive 2025.
The Kickstarter Campaign will launch on Wednesday 23rd October 2024 and runs for 30 days.
